One-to-one Parent/Carer Volunteer
This is someone who makes a commitment to a Parent/Carer to spend 2-3 hours a week with them. This time is spent building relationships through activities that promote skills-based learning & wellbeing and help the Parent/Carer work towards their identified goals. This may include being a listening ear over a coffee, attending a parenting skills workshop or taking part in a fun activity alongside the Parent/Carer.
You will work to create a safe space for a Parent/Carer to relax and take time away from family pressures. Activities encourage social interaction, laughter and conversation, help participants build resilience and confidence.
Your volunteer relationship with a Parent/Carer may fluctuate depending on circumstance. You might find yourself acting as a Befriender (offering connection and companionship), a Mentor (supporting goal setting and achievement through sharing advice), and/or a Peer Mentor (considered a mix of both, using your lived experience and shared interests to support the Participant towards setting and achieving their goals).
