COVEY Young People Blaze a Trail with Fire Reach Success!

A massive well done to the young people supported by COVEY who proudly completed their Fire Skills Award.

The award marked the conclusion of an action-packed four days of training at Coatbridge Community Fire Station and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) National Training Centre in Cambuslang.

Delivered through the Fire Reach programme for schools and charities, the initiative gives young people across North Lanarkshire the opportunity to experience the challenges faced by firefighters, while developing teamwork, confidence, and crucial life-saving skills.

Throughout the course, participants were put to the test with real-life fire and rescue scenarios, including car and train crash simulations and learning how to save lives in emergency situations. The young people then showcased their skills in a gripping final demonstration, tackling a road traffic collision and a house fire response in front of proud supporters.

Each young person now leaves the programme with a full portfolio and certificates, along with the confidence that comes from knowing they could one day save lives.

Organisers highlighted the importance of programmes like Fire Reach in North Lanarkshire, not only in giving young people memorable experiences but also in helping them discover new strengths - and perhaps even sparking an interest in careers with the fire service and other emergency services.

This success is yet another example of how young people are being supported by COVEY, with opportunities to shine while building vital skills for the future.
