What’s Been Happening at COVEY?

We're looking back on another busy and rewarding few months across COVEY. From creative workshops and family outings to residential adventures and peer support sessions, our projects have continued to provide opportunities for young people and families to build confidence, develop new skills and create lasting memories. Here's a look at some of the highlights from across our services.

Flourishing Families

As our Flourishing Familiesproject heads into the summer holidays, we're reflecting on some of the fantastic moments we've shared over the past few months.

From creating colourful clay artwork and making handmade kites to enjoying games of basketball, our young people have embraced every opportunity to get creative, stay active and have fun together.

These shared experiences help build confidence, encourage creativity and strengthen friendships as they prepare for the exciting transition to secondary school. It has been wonderful to see them supporting one another, trying new things and creating lasting memories along the way.

ANGELS

Our Young Adult ANGELS group recently enjoyed a TRNSMT Festival trip, giving the young people a brilliant opportunity that they might not otherwise have been able to access. They got to spend quality time together, listening to some of their favourite artists perform live!

Parent/Carer Peer Support Group

COVEY's Parent/Carer Support Group has been busy bringing people together through creative and social activities.

The group recently took part in a flower arranging workshop led by COVEY's own Mags. Parents and carers had the opportunity to learn new skills, get creative and spend time together in a relaxed and supportive environment. Everyone left with a beautiful floral arrangement and a real sense of achievement.

The group also visited local café MoonBeam Bakes, where they enjoyed a baking session while learning practical skills and sharing experiences in a welcoming setting.

COVEY Connect

The COVEY Connect group recently visited Purrfect Café in East Kilbride, where members enjoyed spending time with the café's rescue cats in a calm and welcoming environment.

The visit provided a great opportunity for the group to relax, connect with one another and create positive shared memories.

The young people also took part in an upcycling workshop, exploring creative ways to transform everyday items while developing practical skills and expressing their creativity. They learned how to safely use tools, like hammers and nails, to make some lovely creations!

COVEY Family Support

At COVEY, we love seeing young people discover and develop their passions.

One of the young people we support has recently developed a real love for fishing. As his confidence has grown, so have his skills, with regular trips to explore new locations. A recent visit to Strathclyde Park proved particularly successful, marking another milestone in his journey.

Our Family Support group also enjoyed a visit to Five Sisters Zoo, where families spent quality time together, met a variety of animals and enjoyed a fun-filled day out. It was wonderful to see families relaxing, strengthening relationships and making lasting memories.

Young Ambassadors

Our Young Ambassadors recently came together for a catch-up, providing an opportunity to reconnect and welcome COVEY's newest Young Ambassador, Cian, to the group. They also completed the final filming session with videographer Nick Jones, capturing their experiences and the part COVEY has played in their lives.

Wiston Lodge Residential

Our recent three-day residential at Wiston Lodge was an unforgettable experience for 24 young people supported by COVEY, with many staying for the full two-night adventure.

Throughout the trip, young people challenged themselves, built confidence, strengthened friendships and developed teamwork through a packed programme of activities. From treasure hunts and nightline walks to canoeing, bushcraft, archery, drumming, waterfall climbs and Highland Games, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Some of the most meaningful moments came from seeing our young carers able to step away from their caring responsibilities and simply enjoy being teenagers—making new friends, trying new experiences and having fun together.

The kindness, encouragement and inclusivity shown throughout the residential were inspiring, with new friendships forming and every young person supported to take part and achieve something they could be proud of.
