Connecting COVEY
An Evening of Celebration, Connection and Looking Ahead
On Thursday, 19th June, COVEY brought together over 60 friends, partners, and supporters for a very special event - Connecting COVEY - held to celebrate the people who make our work possible and share our exciting plans for the future.
The evening was full of energy, emotion, and inspiration, as we honoured the incredible contributions of our volunteers, funders, and young people, while unveiling our new strategic direction for the years ahead.
Celebrating Our Community
Guests from across Lanarkshire joined us - including representatives from funders such as STV Children’s Appeal and Cycling UK, VASLan, long-time supporters, trustees, and staff. We were especially proud to welcome back Monica Lennon MSP, a former COVEY volunteer, who shared powerful reflections on her time with us and the life-changing impact COVEY has on children, young people, and families.
Throughout the night, speakers from across the COVEY community took to the stage - including passionate Young Ambassadors, Udston Primary School Head Teacher Michelle Parker, and former participants who are now volunteering to support others. Each voice told a unique story of connection, growth, and transformation.
“I’ll never forget how gently my Befriender stood by me, offering space, patience, and kindness, even when I wasn’t ready to talk. In the midst of change and uncertainty, they brought stability, compassion, and a deep sense of being valued.” (Emma, Young Ambassador)
A Standing Ovation for Young Talent
One of the most moving moments of the evening came from Young Ambassador Emma Naylor, who delivered a heartfelt musical performance inspired by her journey with COVEY. Her song earned a well-deserved standing ovation and reminded us all of the power of belief, support, and resilience.
A National Award for Volunteer Excellence
A major highlight of the night was our recent achievement of the Investing in Volunteers Award, a UK-wide quality standard that recognises excellence in how organisations involve and support their volunteers. This award is a testament to the care and value we place on every volunteer who gives their time and heart to COVEY.
The award was accepted on behalf of all our volunteers by David Kelly, who has given over 21 years of service to COVEY - making him our longest-serving volunteer. David’s dedication, warmth, and belief in young people were celebrated with huge appreciation by everyone in the room.
Looking to the Future
As part of the evening, COVEY CEO Lee Johnstone shared the organisation’s new strategy for the future. He reflected on the night’s success:
“This was more than a celebration - it was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together with purpose and heart. Inspired by the powerful stories we’ve heard, we are focused on helping even more children and families feel valued, supported, and connected through our befriending, mentoring, and family-support services, ensuring no one has to face their challenges alone.”
To everyone who attended, shared, supported, or cheered us on - thank you.
