Nicola Gunn

My entire career has been rooted in the third sector, so supporting the work of charities is more than a profession - it’s a passion. When the opportunity arose to join the Board of COVEY, it felt like a natural step. Supporting an organisation that delivers such meaningful, life-changing work with children and young people in my own local community was, quite simply, a no-brainer.

What continues to make me proud is hearing the real stories behind the work. Every time I read or listen to an account of how COVEY’s support has helped improve a young person’s life or strengthened a family during a difficult time, I’m reminded why this organisation matters. Those moments reinforce how privileged I feel to play even a small part in the journey by serving on the Board of such a dedicated and impactful charity.

With over two decades of experience in the third sector, I bring a strong understanding of charity governance and leadership. I also contribute practical knowledge in income generation, marketing and communications, areas that are vital to ensuring the organisation remains sustainable, visible and able to reach those who need support most. Being part of the Board allows me to use those skills strategically, helping to shape the direction of the organisation while staying true to its mission and values.

For anyone considering joining the Board, I would encourage you to take the leap. Charities thrive on strong governance and need people from all backgrounds to bring their skills and experience to the table, whether that’s in business, finance, HR, operations or beyond.

Becoming a trustee is an incredibly rewarding way to give something back to a cause you care about, while helping ensure it continues to make a lasting difference for children, young people and families in the future.
