Meet Emma!

Emma recently joined COVEY as Head of Services. She kindly shared a little bit about herself.

What inspired you to join our team, and what are you most excited about in your new role?

I was keen to come back to an organisation where the support was volunteer led and to an organisation that was embedded in the local communities but keen to grow services. Additionally, the passion to  expand Flourishing Families fitted in really well with my expertise in launching an early intervention and prevention schools based service in my previous role.

Can you share a little about your professional background and experience?

Most recently I worked with Rock Trust as a Service Manager where I managed Housing Support services and our Early Intervention and Prevention service which I developed and delivered across three Local Authorities, then expanding into a fourth area in our second year. Prior to that I was an Area Manager for Victim Support Scotland and I was responsible for 11 services across the North East of Scotland, managing both staff and volunteers. However, I initially started off my career in Payroll and Accounts before I graduated so I have quite a varied background!

What’s a fun fact about you that most people wouldn’t guess?

I was invited to audition for a role in a TV series as a casting agent happen to see me in one of our local pantomimes but I had to decline as I was heading to America on holiday. The TV show turned out to be Outlander, so I was understandably gutted to have missed out on the opportunity!

I also have a phobia of tuna!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or passions?

I love cooking and going out for a long walks with my partner. We’re hoping to start our Munro journey soon. I also love keeping fit and active – more so because I like my food!

What’s one goal you have for your first year here?

I’d love to continue delivering high quality support to our participants but also expand our networks into other Local Authorities to grow COVEY’s reach. I’m also really excited to become part of a fantastic team and build really strong relationships with you all.

If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be and why?

This is tricky but I’d probably say Hank from Breaking Bad as I loved the character and think we’d have a good laugh over dinner. Or John Snow from Game of Thrones as it would make interesting conversation around strategy and how best to try and collaborate across groups with very different views.
