Joining the COVEY Board was driven by a simple but powerful motivation: my desire to give time and skills to make a real difference in local communities.
Supporting children, young people, and families matters deeply because everyone deserves a space where they can show up as themselves, feel safe, be heard, and be supported. COVEY creates those spaces every day, and being part of that mission is both meaningful and inspiring.
There are countless moments that highlight the impact of the Board’s work, but one that stands out was a COVEY event led by young people earlier this year. Seeing their confidence, presentation skills, and willingness to openly share their journeys was incredibly powerful.
Each Board meeting brings similar reminders of why the work matters, as trustees hear directly from children, young people, parents, and carers about their lived experiences. Spending time with the staff team (seeing their passion, collaboration, and commitment firsthand) reinforces just how special COVEY is as an organisation.
Bringing a background in business development from the corporate world has allowed me to contribute strategic thinking that helps strengthen and future-proof the charity. By applying professional experience to governance and growth, the Board ensures COVEY can continue supporting children, young people, and families for many years to come.
For anyone considering joining the Board, the message is clear: it’s an incredible and rewarding journey. While trustees bring their own skills and perspectives, they also gain so much in return, learning from one another, working alongside a talented and passionate group, and sharing a sense of purpose.
It’s meaningful work, driven by a shared mission, and importantly, it’s done with heart, collaboration, and a lot of enjoyment along the way!
